Amazing Eyewear invites you on a trip to North America, to discover the eyeglass designers of that region who use wood for their frames. On the itinerary: hiking in the Idaho forests; country walks in Oregon; visiting Los Angeles; and trekking up to Canada. We will even go meet a small craftsman of wooden glasses in Quebec…

On the American side

Wooden glasses are available far beyond Europe. In the United States, many brands have begun to make them.

With 41% of its area covered by forests, Idaho is undoubtedly an ideal place to work with wood. Perhaps this is why Proof, a brand of wooden sunglasses, got its start in Idaho. Based in Boise, the brand makes its frames by hand for optimal quality.

Did you know ?

Boise owes its name to the many surrounding forests.

Here are some Shwood eyeglasses manufactured in wood.

In his Portland, Oregon studio, Shwood manually manufactures wooden glasses. Inspired by the purity of nature, the brand handles wood with delicacy and modifies it as little as possible. Shwood also avoids long journeys as much as possible: the wood comes mainly from the American Northwest, and if not, from recycled skateboards.

Wooden glasses are also manufactured in Los Angeles!

Sires Crown is a Los Angeles-based brand. Its glasses can be ordered in the wood of your choice to satisfy the tastes, simple or exotic, of all nature lovers. The brand offers a dozen shapes of eyeglasses and sunglasses, inspired mainly classic or retro models, in all possible wood shades.

An eye on Canada

There is an abundance of wood in Canada. Contrary to popular belief, there are not only maple trees, but many other species as well. It’s in this favorable forest environment that several craftsmen turned to wood.

This is the case for GoWood, a brand specializing in phone cases and wooden glasses. Very environmentally conscious, the brand uses bamboo and recycled wood to make its products. Even better, for each sale, GoWood plants a tree!

At Capital Eyewear, another Canadian brand, they care about quality. The designer makes it a point of honor to create utterly unique wooden sunglasses. Very involved in the development of the local economy, Capital Eyewear contributes part of its proceeds to an organization that aids local entrepreneurship.

In Quebec, a cabinetmaker named Robert Germain creates spectacles from exotic wood species. In the self-taught tradition, Robert Germain manufactures just about everything from A to Z. Under the name R. G. Artisan, the brand offers luxurious handmade sunglasses.
