Bespoke spectacle-makers

As trendsetters, fashion’s early adopters, or steadfast guardians of all that is timeless: spectacle-makers have always been renowned for their talent. If their work is primarily about design, many of them have understood that this goes hand-in-hand with made-to-measure.

Designers are constantly bubbling with new ideas: change is their stock-in-trade. Creating involves taking risks, trying things out, and especially, breaking new ground. While some seek perfection in high-quality craftsmanship, others are consistently exploring new technologies.

A made-to-measure challenge

Made-to-measure is a challenge for makers, as every piece needs to be designed for a particular face and to suit the individual’s tastes. For brands, though, it is mainly an asset that helps them attract a discerning clientèle and offer this service for non-standard faces.

In Los Angeles, Dom Vetro combines the best of American expertise with Italian quality – in fact, the designer initially trained in the Italian Alps before taking off for the United States. The brand has a single philosophy: spectacle-wearers deserve the best that craftsmanship and made-to-measure have to offer. Everything, from the colors to the style and any engravings on the arms, is chosen by the client. Then it’s time for actual manufacture, by hand, a task that takes more than 10 days’ work.
